A man has been shot dead by a Gauteng traffic police officer following a tussle over a weapon on Wednesday.
Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan confirmed that Gauteng Traffic Police stopped a suspicious-looking pedestrian at the intersection of President Fouche Drive and Kelly Avenue in Boskruin, Randburg Sun reported.
“When confronted, the man became hostile and started fighting with the first officer. The second officer stepped in to assist, and was stabbed in the armpit with a screwdriver by the man,” said Muthan.
During the altercation, one of the officers’ firearm fell to the ground. A tussle ensued between the first officer and the suspicious individual. The officer managed to get hold of the gun, and shot and killed the man.
