Zuma will ‘buy some NEC members’ to vote against his removal – Malema

Following the decision by the ANC to escalate deliberations on President Jacob Zuma’s future to the party’s highest decision-making body, the national executive committee (NEC), EFF leader Julius Malema has made a shocking claim that Zuma will attempt bribe some members of the NEC from voting in support of his removal from office.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning after the ANC’s national executive committee (NWC) resolved last night to hold an urgent meeting of the NEC set for Wednesday in Cape Town, Malema tweeted: “The man [Zuma] has unleashed the whole syndicate to go to Cape Town tomorrow and buy some NEC members to vote in his favor after the majority of NWC members spoke in favor of his removal [SIC].”

The NEC meeting comes after the ANC’s top six officials failed to convince Zuma to resign voluntarily as the country’s head of state on Sunday and on the eve of the state of the nation address (Sona) in parliament.

According to reports, Zuma told the ANC’s top six leaders that only the NEC could remove him from power. On Monday, he met the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini in KwaZulu-Natal, in what his office said was a long-scheduled meeting.

Zuma’s term ends next year, but pressure has been mounting for him to quit amid threats of impeachment, a no-confidence vote and possible reinstatement of hundreds of decade-old charges of corruption and racketeering.
