Zuma says he’s ‘very happy’ to be stepping down as ANC president

With a few days left until the ANC holds its much-anticipated elective conference next week, President Jacob Zuma says he is happy that his term as the leader of the governing party is coming to end soon.

“If you come to realise that in one week and a few days that Zuma will be president, he will no longer be and he’s very happy,” Zuma said on Thursday while addressing the Energy Indaba in Midrand, Johannesburg, EWN reported.

Zuma promised to work with whoever emerges victorious at the conference to ensure a seamless handover.

He said the ANC’s 54^th national conference was the biggest story and he agreed it would have an impact on the local economy, saying he knew there was a lot of anxiety from the business community about what would transpire at the congress.

“Let me assure you that everything possible is being done to ensure a successful conference and transition to the future,” Zuma said.

The ANC will hold its national conference at Nasrec Expo Centre, Johannesburg, from December 16 to 20.
