Zuma counselled to fire Muthambi in draft of SABC report

According to the Sunday Times, Muthambi “displayed incompetence in carrying out her responsibility as shareholder representative”, including by appointing Hlaudi Motsoeneng as permanent chief operating officer after the public protector ruled against him.

The weekly further reports that Muthambi “interfered in some of the board’s decision-making” and irregularly amended the broadcaster’s memorandum of incorporation to “centralise power in the ministry.”

“The president should seriously reconsider the desirability of this particular minister retaining the communications portfolio,” the report says.

Some of the recommendations included that an independent company conduct a forensic investigation into irregular appointments, salary increases and questionable contracts awarded.

Editorial policy had to be tossed. Public input was needed and journalists had to be allowed to work without fear and intimidation. In addition, the acting positions of the chief executive officer, financial officer and operating boss had to be filled by qualified and worthy people.
