Two of SA’s most experienced stuntmen had a narrow escape at the Carnival City Casino complex earlier this week when a test run with a quad bike through a fire tunnel did not go according to plan.
Enrico Schoeman and The Citizen’s André de Kock are in the process of trying to set a new Guinness distance world record for riding a quad bike through a tunnel of fire.
The pair already hold the Guinness World Record for riding a motorcycle through a tunnel of fire, set at 120m in 2012.
Wednesday evening’s quad bike test run of 30m went wrong when the 400cc Honda’s engine cut out due to air starvation near the end of the tunnel.
In the process, the rear wheels locked momentarily, causing the bike to slide sideways, hit the side of the tunnel and flip.
Luckily, it crashed just outside of the flaming tunnel, and the two riders only suffered cuts and bruises.
The team will go back to the drawing board, with another run planned in the next two months.
