A 38-year-old woman was raped while her husband was severely assaulted by three suspects after they were hijacked on the Old Tongaat Road near Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal, over the weekend, Phoenix Sun reports.
An extensive search for the suspects was conducted by Reaction Unit South Africa. However, no arrests were made.
At about 4.32pm, the RUSA team received a call from a Christian mission in the area who requested assistance after the injured man arrived at their premises. The man stated that his vehicle, a Renault Scenic, had been stolen with his wife still inside.
Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene and, while en route, found the hijacked vehicle parked on the side of the road. Officers approached the vehicle and found the woman inside.
It was established that, while parked in an isolated area, the couple were accosted by the suspects. One was armed with a firearm while the remaining two were in possession of metal pipes.

The suspects forced the man out of the vehicle before assaulting him with metal pipes. They then drove off in the vehicle with the wife still inside. The male victim then ran towards the Christian mission for assistance.
The suspects drove into a cane field where they each took turns in raping the woman. They then robbed her of her valuables before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.
The victim then managed to drive to the main road where she was found by officers and her husband.
