Woman beater Mduduzi Manana hands out sanitary pads to girls

Former deputy minister of higher education and training Mduduzi Manana appears to be working hard to rehabilitate his image in the wake of his forced resignation last month.

Manana, who remains an ANC MP, resigned in the wake of his facing charges for hitting two women at Cubana Lounge in Fourways.

The assault occurred after Manana got into a heated argument with Mandisa Duma over the ANC succession race. She allegedly called him gay and he felt this was a provocation.

Leaked audio saw Manana confessing to the incident and telling the victim’s brother he had “just slapped the woman”.

Manana appears to have a history of assault after another woman came forward to relay an incident in which he had an altercation with her at an Ermelo night spot. Both opened charges against each other but these were dropped, police confirmed.

The MP has a foundation that hands out sanitary pads to schoolgirls. In a video the Mduduzi Manana Foundation patron can be seen explaining that he takes the issue of schoolgirls not having access to sanitary materials seriously as it can lead to schoolgirls missing days off school.

The foundation, in partnership with Mia Sanitary Towels, visited the Walter Cingo Secondary school in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape, to distribute towels and healthcare products.

They said “the aim is to reduce girls’ absenteeism and restore their dignity”.
