Hearings at the Mokgoro inquiry into the fitness of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Nomgcobo Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi are set to resume on Monday at 10am. The NPA’s former Deputy NDPP Willie Hofmeyr will again take the witness stand for cross examination.
Proceedings were halted last week to allow Hofmeyr to further consult with his legal counsel in relation to allegations he made in his affidavit.
The inquiry has so far heard evidence from 12 witnesses.
The evidence of other witnesses will be communicated once such information is finalised.
The Mokgoro inquiry was established in terms of 12(6) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act 32 of 1998, and in relation to the Code of Conduct of Prosecutors.
It is led by Constitutional Court Retired Judge Justice Yvonne Mokgoro and supported by panelists Advocate Kgomotso Moroka SC and Ms Thenjiwe Vilakazi. The hearings are expected to end in March and a report to be submitted shortly thereafter.
