Outspoken ANC MP Makhosi Khoza has slammed Police Minister Fikile Mbalula over his statement last week that the culprit behind threats directed at her came from a “troubled” teenage girl from Gugulethu, in Cape Town.
Khoza says Mbalula is desperate to use his position as police minister to “speak ill of those who speak truth to power”.
On Friday, during a walkabout at the notorious Glebelands Hostel in Durban, Mbalula said following an extensive cyber investigation‚ the threatening calls and messages received by Khoza, her daughter and other members of the National Assembly were traced to the 17-year-old girl with unconfirmed links to the DA.
Taking to Facebook at the weekend, Khoza shamed the minister and said his “utterances are nothing but desperation to make it in the ANC NEC [national executive committee] in December 2017”.
She also challenged Mbalula to provide her with answers relating to the killers of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa and Sbu Sibiya, the ANC’s eThekwini regional secretary who was killed in a hail of bullets in July 2011 when he entered his home in Inanda, outside Durban.
Magaqa was laid to rest on Sunday in his hometown of uMzimkhulu after being shot in July.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday had to postpone Khoza’s disciplinary hearing to October 1 after she failed to pitch for the hearing for the second time since the party charged her with ill-discipline for contravening the ANC’s disciplinary code.
The MP said she would not attend the proceedings, as the disciplinary committee was nullified by the Pietermaritzburg High Court, which ruled on Tuesday that the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) was unlawfully elected in November 2015.
Khoza said the disciplinary action could be only decided by a newly constitutionally elected PEC, but the KZN leadership has accused her of undermining the party’s leadership.
