‘ONLY whites please’ – request from ‘Private Property agent’
Apparently if you are interested in renting this Pretoria townhouse, the last thing you want to be is black.

An estate agent by the name of Elize Scheun allegedly posted a request for prospective tenants in an advert on the Private Property website.
The advert, posted on February 9 2017, concerns a Pretoria townhouse in La Montagne. The house, which was advertised for rental, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas, two garages, and no stairs.
The advert pointed out that “no pets [are] allowed,” and also stressed that people note bene [note well] that “ONLY whites” would be allowed to apply for the accommodation.
Upon seeing the advert, The Citizen called to confirm with Private Property if indeed this was a legitimate advert. The manager of the company was not immediately available for comment, but we were given the number of the estate agent concerned.
At first her phone kept ringing without answer, and was then switched off. Then her picture and name were removed from the property website. Curiously, the whites-only requirement still remained.
Joleen Stapelberg, who is the principal of the property company, told The Citizen that “somebody” did the “wrong advert”, and she doesn’t know who that is.
“Somebody did that,” said Stapelberg, who added that “I don’t know who advertised it.”
She said the advert would be pulled down and rectified.
Scheun, who could not be reached for comment, appears to be a seasoned estate agent with a number of other adverts on the Private Property website, and she has been listed as an estate agent for property company Dick and Sue Home Finders.

AFTER
This comes several months after Sodwana Bay Guest House owner Andre Slade made waves when he denied black people and government officials access to his guest lounge in KwaZulu-Natal.
Slade responded to a request for accommodation, saying: “We do not accommodate blacks or government officials any longer.”
The e-mail was accompanied by scripture from Proverbs 29:2, which read: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”
