Western Cape govt proposes a 4.5 percent vehicle licence fee hike

The Western Cape transport department on Thursday announced it was proposing a 4.5 percent increase in vehicle licence fees.

“The draft regulation is now open for public comment until Monday, 15 January 2018,” a statement from the department said.

“While not required by law, we have continued to publish these draft regulations for comment so as to allow the close to 2 million vehicle owners in the Western Cape the opportunity to submit their comments.”

The department said it relied on licence fees to help build, upgrade and maintain the provincial road network.

Motorists in the Western Cape could send their comments on the proposed increases to department head Michael Gallant via email at michael.gallant@westerncape.gov.za or via fax to 021 483 7103.

Alternatively, they could contact Gallant at Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, PO Box 2603, Cape Town, 8000.
