A wet weekend ahead for parts of SA

Isolated showers and rain are expected along the southern coastline.

South Africans in some parts of the country should brace for a wet weekend after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned of isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central interior of the country on Saturday.

Isolated showers and rain are also expected along the cape coastline and adjacent interior.

Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said they would be on high alert.

“From our side as the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, we will remain on high alert throughout the weekend to make sure that we can be able to respond to any emergencies which might occur throughout all seven regions of the City of Johannesburg,” Mulaudzi said on Friday.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Emalahleni, Intsika Yethu, and parts of Enoch Mgijima Local municipality in the Eastern Cape and over the southern part of the Northern Cape.

“Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and animal life,” warned the weather service.

On Sunday, isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the central interior of the country, with isolated to scattered showers and rain expected over the eastern parts.

Isolated showers and rain are expected along the southern coastline.
