A yellow level 1 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and heavy rain over the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape on Friday, said the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on Thursday.
Residents in these areas have been urged to watch out for localised flooding of susceptible formal/informal settlements or roads, low-lying areas and bridges, localised damage to property and livelihood and minor vehicle accidents.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are also expected over the eastern and northern parts of the Northern Cape on Friday.
“Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and/or animal life,” warned the weather service.
