Isolated showers and rain expected in parts of Western Cape

KwaZulu-Natal weather: Partly cloudy with fog over the interior in the morning, otherwise fine and warm.


The passing cold front in parts of the Western Cape on Friday is expected to bring isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned.

Isolated showers and thundershowers are also expected over the central parts of the country on Friday.

Towards the end of the long weekend cooler conditions with some showers or thundershowers will set in over KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The weekend will also see an increase in thunderstorm activity over North-West, the Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

The weather service has also issued an alert for extremely high fire danger conditions over the central parts of the Northern Cape.

“Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human or animal life.”

Friday’s weather forecast

Gauteng: Fine and warm weather. The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.

Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise fine and cool to warm but hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo: Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise fine and warm to hot weather.

North West: Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers in the western part.

Free State: Fine and warm weather, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers, except in the east.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly.

Western Cape: Morning drizzle and fog along the west coast, otherwise partly cloudy to cloudy and cool to warm with rain over the south-western parts, spreading along the south coast in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to north-westerly but fresh to strong south of Cape Point in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly. The expected UVB sunburn index: high.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm, but cool along the coast. It will become cloudy in the evening south of the escarpment. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southwesterly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Partly and warm, but cool along the coast with isolated afternoon thunderstorms expected over the interior. It will become cloudy south of the escarpment in the
evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly becoming fresh to strong south-westerly from late morning.

KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy with fog over the interior in the morning, otherwise fine and warm weather. The wind along the coast will be moderate westerly to south-westerly north of Durban, otherwise easterly to
north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.
