The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with excessive lightning, large amounts of small hail, strong winds and heavy downpours on Monday.
The weather warning has been issued for the extreme southern parts of Limpopo, Highveld and escarpment areas of Mpumalanga and northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Kagiso Molopo and Naledi Local Municipalities in the North-West Province, as well as Joe Morolong and Dawid Kruiper Local Municipalities in the Northern Cape.

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very High.
Mpumalanga: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.
Limpopo: Cloudy over the central and eastern parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south as well as some drizzle along the escarpment.
North West: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers except over the western parts.
Free State: Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east, but scattered in the extreme east. Morning fog patches can be expected in the east.
Northern Cape: Fine and cool to warm weather, but hot to very hot over the central and eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape: Cloud to partly cloudy in the morning over the eastern parts, otherwise fine and cool to warm, but hot over the central interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, but easterly along the south coast. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme.
Western half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool to warm weather, becoming fine in the north-west in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly to easterly, but strong at times west of Port Elizabeth by late afternoon.
Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy and cool weather with isolated showers and rain, but scattered along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog patches over the western interior, otherwise cloudy and cool but warm in the north-east. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected.
The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming easterly to north-easterly from the south in the afternoon, spreading to Richards Bay by evening. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low.
