Cold front expected to make landfall in Western Cape on Tuesday evening

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says the cold front approaching from the south west of the country is expected to make landfall over the western parts of the Western Cape later on Tuesday evening.

According to the weather service, the cold front will be accompanied by scattered showers and thundershowers.

Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are also expected over the eastern half of the country and along the south coast.

Wednesday’s weather forecast

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and cool with isolated afternoon thundershowers in the south. The expected UVB sunburn index: high.

Mpumalanga: Fine and hot in the Lowveld, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon thundershowers in the extreme south.

Limpopo: Fine in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot.

North West: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon thundershowers, except the north-east.

Free State: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered afternoon thundershowers but isolated in the south-west.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy in the east and south with morning fog patches over the southern high ground, otherwise fine and cool, but warm in the north. Isolated afternoon thundershowers are expected in the north-east.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape: Warm in the north-west, otherwise cloudy and cool with a chance of rain and isolated showers along the south coast in the morning, becoming partly cloudy in the west and north during the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be fresh south-westerly along the south coast otherwise fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy in the south with a chance of light rain in places along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong westerly to south-westerly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool with isolated afternoon thundershowers in the east and becoming cloudy south of the escarpment with a chance of light rain in places in the evening.
The wind along the coast will be strong south-westerly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Cool in the south, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme west.

The wind along the coast will be fresh northerly to north-easterly north of Durban in the morning, otherwise fresh to strong southerly to south-westerly. The expected UVB sunburn index: high.
