Severe thunderstorms with strong winds likely in Gauteng today
The SA Weather Service has advised the public to constantly check for 'extreme weather warnings'.

The South African Weather Service has addressed reports that have been circulating on social media claiming Gauteng would experience a tornado on Wednesday. Taking to social media, the SA Weather Service said Gauteng people should not expect a tornado as the reports were false.
Following some Twitter statements;
1. @SAWeatherServic does not expect a tornado today (16/1/19)
2. WATCH: Severe thunderstorms with strong winds and large amounts of small hail are likely over Gauteng, the eastern areas of North West and Free state.— SA Weather Service (@SAWeatherServic) January 16, 2019
However, it further issued a watch for severe thunderstorms with strong winds and large amounts of small hail, saying they were likely over Gauteng, the eastern areas of North West, and Free state.
The SA Weather Service advised residents to carry on with their planned activities for the day but also ensure to often check for “extreme weather warnings”.
