Scattered showers and thundershowers expected in Gauteng on Sunday

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea between Dassen Island and Hermanus while a build-up of sand is possible on the False Bay coastal routes on Sunday.

The weather service has also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions over most parts of Namakwa district of Northern Cape and Western Cape.

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures for the Nama Khoi, Kamiesberg Municipalities of the Northern Cape and Matzikama Municipality of the Western Cape is expected until Sunday.

Sunday’s weather forecast

Gauteng: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be warm in the north. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low

Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers, but warm over the lowveld.

Limpopo: Morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated over the lowveld.

North West: Partly cloudy in the west, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

Free State: Cloudy in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme east.

Northern Cape: Fine and very hot in the extreme west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north eastern part. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape: Cloudy with mist along the south coast in the morning, otherwise fine and hot to very hot but extremely hot in the west coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the south in the morning, otherwise fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Fine and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy along the wild coast in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool but warm in places in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly north of Richards Bay, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: High.
