Cold front expected in Gauteng this week

Temperatures in Gauteng are expected to get colder ahead of the weekend.


Although a cold front is expected in Gauteng on Friday, the South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued no weather warnings for other parts of the country.

The weather in Gauteng is expected to get colder, with temperatures expected to drop significantly ahead of the weekend.

The cold weather is a stark reminder that winter is coming, and it signals that South Africans should start taking out their blankets.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Tuesday, 29 April:

Gauteng

Partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the north. A cold snap is forecast for Friday and the weekend.

Mpumalanga

Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme south-west.

Limpopo

Saws said Limpopo will be cloudy in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

North West

The North West will be fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

Free State

Residents can anticipate morning fog in the east and along the Lesotho border, otherwise fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

Northern Cape

Morning fog patches along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly.

Western Cape

Morning fog along the coasts, otherwise cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm with light rain over the south-western spreading to the southern parts from the evening.

The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly along the south-west coast in the early morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly to westerly but strong along the west coast.

Western half of the Eastern Cape

Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy but cool along the coast. The wind along the coast will be Moderate south-westerly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape

The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in places south-west.

KwaZulu-Natal

Morning fog in the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and rain in the north-east, but isolated except in the south and west. It will be cloudy in the north.

The wind along the coast will be the wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly in the north, otherwise northerly to north-easterly.
