Cold weather, with isolated showers and thundershowers expected in Gauteng

Hail is expected to hit parts of Gauteng on Monday night.


The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rain along the KwaZulu-Natal coast and the adjacent interior on Monday night.

A yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued, with a possibility of hail over Gauteng except the north-western parts of the province, the southern parts of Limpopo, the highveld of Mpumalanga as well as the eastern parts of the North West and Free State province.

On Tuesday, some parts of the country, including Gauteng, are expected to experience cold weather, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Tuesday’s weather forecast

Gauteng: Cloudy at first with early morning fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index: moderate.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy at first with morning fog patches on the Highveld and along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be warm in the Lowveld.

Limpopo: Cloudy at first with morning fog patches, except on the Lowveld, otherwise party cloudy and cool to warm. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the south-east.

North West: Cloudy in the central and eastern parts at first with morning fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east.

Free State: Cloudy in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers in the northeast. Fog is expected in places in the morning.

Northern Cape: Morning fog patches expected in the east, otherwise fine and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape: Morning fog patches in the north-east as well along the south coastal areas where it will become partly cloudy in the afternoon, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly to southerly along the west coast, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly to westerly. The expected UVB sunburn index: moderate.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise fine and cool. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to south-westerly, becoming fresh in the evening.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise fine and cool, but cold in the extreme north. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to south-westerly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy in the north with isolated showers and thundershowers along the coast at first, otherwise fine and cool.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming moderate north-easterly from the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index: moderate.
