SA Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms and localised flooding in Gauteng

Motorists have been warned to practice extreme caution on the roads.

The South African Weather Service issued a warning of severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours in parts of Johannesburg from 3pm on Monday. According to the weather service, the heavy rainfall is expected to stop at 5pm tonight.

“Severe thunderstorms are observed over the eastern parts of Johannesburg (Gauteng) in the Kempton Park area, resulting in heavy downpours that could lead to localised flooding in places,” it warned.

Gauteng Weather took to Twitter to warn about the “first real cool spell” in Gauteng expected from Tuesday.

In KwaZulu-Natal, severe thunderstorms were also expected over parts of uThukela and uMgungundlovu, moving towards Msinga and uMvoti with possible hail, heavy downpours and strong damaging winds.
