WATCH: Zuma says he doesn’t know why he’s always accused of wrongdoing

Zuma says he can only speculate that this is because he leads the biggest party in SA, which has won democratic elections since 1994.

President Jacob Zuma says he does not know why he has become the subject of news headlines over corruption allegations contained in a new explosive book by veteran journalist and author Jacques Pauw, which claims the president has links to gangsters.

He was responding to a question from National Freedom Party (NFP) MP Sheik Imam on Thursday during his final oral reply to MPs’ questions for the year in the National Assembly.

‘I don’t know exactly what is it that makes people to make allegations.’

Imam wanted to know whether Zuma had any idea why he frequently hogged newspaper headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Zuma said he could only “speculate” that his presidency had been bedeviled by scandals because there were people trying to undermine the governing African National Congress (ANC).

“I don’t know exactly what is it that makes people to make allegations … there are many books in this country that have been written about Jacob Zuma. There are many articles on a daily basis that are written by journalists on the newspapers, as well as people who talk on TV or radio,” Zuma said.

“I can’t tell you exactly what is it that makes them to do so, except my speculation is that Zuma leads the biggest party, which is in government. It has won elections since democracy, and they are trying to find a way to undermine the ANC more than anything. That’s my speculation,” he added
