WATCH: When Van Rooyen said ‘237 thousand million rands’ in parly

The EFF's Floyd Shivambu was the first to break out in laughter at this unfortunate incident.

An old video of Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs David van Rooyen getting the numbers wrong in parliament has resurfaced. In the video, the minister, who was giving an address in parliament, can be seen holding a booklet and trying to read out numbers to the House.

However, what they were not expecting was that he would pull ‘a President Jacob Zuma’ on them and get the numbers completely wrong. He goes: “234… almost 237 thousand million rands”, and the EFF could not keep from laughing.

The minister has always been a victim of memes on social media after he was appointed minister of finance for only four days after the president fired Nhlanhla Nene. After much criticism,  Zuma defended his choice and said Van Rooyen was the most qualified Minister who has even been in the finance job.
