The national bus strike is in its 8th day on Wednesday with no possible solution. Unions and bus employers continue to see no way forward after they reached a deadlock on Friday.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu), The National Union of Metaworkers of South Africa and the Tirisano Transport Workers Union are demanding a 12% wage hike, with employers offering 7%.
The drivers are demanding full pay for dual drivers travelling long distances with a nightshift roster change. The current roster stands at 8pm – 3am, and the bus drivers demand that it be changed to 4pm – 6am.
