The N2 in Port Elizabeth has been temporarily closed due the fire that Arrive Alive said was “out of control”. According to reports, strong winds were fanning fires in the Van Stadens Gorge area. People were also being evacuated in the Woodridge area in Port Elizabeth due to dense smoke.
Algoa FM has reported that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said precautionary evacuations were done at Woodridge College due to smoke from a fire raging close to the N2 outside the city.
Woodridge College headmaster, Trevor von Berg, told the station: “all children and staff have been evacuated. There is no one on the campus now and the fire department has taken over”.
A child was injured when a falling powerline knocked him off a light delivery vehicle. The child was treated by emergency medical services.
