The former Cabinet minister says he does not believe he got fired over the Optimum deal.

Former mineral resources minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi on Tuesday spoke to SABC News about his damning claims that Eskom board chairperson Ben Ngubane and the power utility’s reappointed chief executive Brian Molefe allegedly attempted to suspend the mining licences of Glencore, the previous owners of Optimum mine.

This was purportedly done to benefit the controversial Gupta family, who wanted to buy the coalmine from the mining the giant in 2015.

Optimum supplied coal to Eskom’s Hendrina power station, and was subsequently bought by the Guptas from Glencore in December 2015.
