WATCH: ‘Pastor’ anoints congregants with soft drinks
Footage shows the pastor pouring the flavoured drinks on willing participants.
Footage of a man at a church apparently anointing congregants with soft drinks has posed a question on Christianity. The video shows a man, presumed to be a pastor, pouring bottles of soft drinks on the heads of people. A large following of people – presumed to be congregants – can be seen lined up to be drenched in what appears to be Fanta and a dark-coloured soft drink.
The man standing on a chair attends to a long queue of members, who each have two bottles of soft drinks in their hands. The man collects the drinks and empties them on the congregants’ heads. The supposed followers seem to welcome the miracle act and move slowly past the miracle man.
Twitter user Jackson Ude criticised the act, suggesting that it had reduced Christianity to a comedy show: “Everything is now used to perform miracles. Poverty has consumed our brains, we no longer think. We depend on idiots who call themselves prophets for daily needs, including financial blessings.”

The video of the soft drink pastor follows a plethora of videos regarding pastors performing questionable acts on congregants. In October last year, a video of infamous paster Penuel “snake pastor” Mnguni circulated on social media, showing the pastor suggesting to his congregation to eat dog meat.

Mnguni was dubbed the snake pastor after he urged congregants to eat snakes in 2015.

Another pastor was recorded convincing congregants to eat grass while another pastor from Pretoria convinced them to drink Dettol.

✝ Christian pastor in South Africa says god instructed him to encourage church members to drink #Dettol for getting healed… Earlier he commanded his followers to eat grass in order to get closer to God…
