Parliament is currently interviewing candidates for the SABC board, and some of the candidates have created a debate on social media. One of the candidates who is the talk of the Twitter streets is Rachel Kalidass, a chartered accountant and former SABC board member. She said she was unlawfully removed from the board following disagreements with board members on whether the recommendations issued by former public protector Thuli Madonsela should be implemented.
Among others, the people’s bae and EFF national spokesperson Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi asked what Kalidass thought were some of the positive things about the SABC.
“What do you think about Tjovitjo?” Ndlozi asked confused Kalidass.
“Sorry, about?” she asked him, to someone’s amusement who could not hold back but burst in laughter.
“Tjo-vi-tjo,” responded Ndlozi.
Kalidass apologised and said she did not know what Tjovitjo was.
“Oh Tjovitjo is a programme. Do you watch SABC 1?” Ndlozi asked her.
Without admitting that she did not watch SABC 1, Kalidass said she was more inclined to SABC3.
“You don’t know Tjovitjo?” Ndlozi asked again, to which she said: “No”.

Her response has divided social media users, with some saying it was unfair of people to expect her to know every programme on the SABC channels.
“But come on, she’s not the target audience for SABC1, the content on SABC3 appeals to her,” said one of those who supported her.
Some, however, said there was no reason for her not to know the show when there were reports about it having broken TV record as the highest rated show of all time.
“Wanna get on SABC board? She better be inclined with all the SABC channels not just SABC3 its not SABC3 Board! She must stay home!”
The interviews continue.
