WATCH: Malema tells us why Mbete was dumped for Dlamini-Zuma

According to EFF leader Julius Malema, Mbete was used by Zuma and unceremoniously left out in the cold by the Women’s League, who announced outgoing AU chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as their preferred candidate for ANC president.

Though Malema ranted about Mbete being humiliated by Zuma at the state of the nation address (Sona) last week, he further expanded on why she could not hold the top position in the ruling party. Among some of the reasons Malema gave was that the Guptas had Dlamini-Zuma in their pocket.

“In the evidence we gave the public protector, we gave evidence of Nkosazana frequenting the Guptas’ house. Nkosazana went to accept Gupta money in full view of all of you when she accepted that non-existing award, the person of the year.”

He also alleged Mbete was discredited by the EFF in parliament for her handling of their protests and debates.

“What a terrible thing they did to Baleka. They even told her to leave the position of former deputy president. She is in trouble, a former deputy president status which was permanent with salary and protection.”
