WATCH: Golden Highway ‘burning’ in water protest

Motorists have been advised to steer clear of the Goldern Highway at the entrance of Zakariya Park in Johannesburg on Monday due to ongoing protests.
Residents in the area have taken to the streets to burn tyres and block roads in protest of being without water for three days.
The highway remains closed, with traffic being diverted by metro police. Motorists are advised to use the R554 or the K43 as alternative routes.
Video footage on social media alleges protesters have called on community at Vlakfontein to block the Golden Highway at Lenasia South as well.

The Community around Zakariyya Park , Southern Johannesburg have started to gather at Engen Garage to protest against water shortages in the area.

The Golden Highway protest follows another protest in KwaZulu-Natal on the N3 freeway near the Mooi River toll plaza, on Sunday night, where 35-trucks were damaged and 54 people arrested.
