WATCH: Education department provides details on Thuto school stabbing

The department of education has confirmed that two pupils from the Thuto Tiro Comprehensive school in Sebokeng were playing together before a learner was fatally stabbed with a pair of scissors on Monday morning.
Department spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed both pupils were in grade 9 and said education MEC Panyaza Lesufi rushed to the school only to find that one of the learners was declared dead by medics. It is alleged that the pupils were playing in class before one of them was stabbed.
The learner was taken to the admin block’s sickbay where he was attended to, however, medics certified him dead.
What triggered the incident remains unclear. Police are investigating a murder docket while the deceased’s parents are informed. The other pupil has been taken into custody and a case of murder has been opened.
