SAPS, security companies, Alberton metro police and the region’s community policing forum (CPF) responded to the scene after an alarm went off on Sunday morning, June 17, Alberton Record reports.
At about 11am, three suspects entered the Pep Store at New Redruth Mall and proceeded to lock all the store employees in one of the offices.

They took cellphones and other valuables.
After a long stand-off, the SAPS Special Task Team entered the premises to free the people thought to be kept hostage, but no suspects were found on the premises.
No injuries were reported.
No arrests have been made, and all hostages were reported to be safe and unharmed.
