WATCH: ANCYL endorses Dlamini-Zuma for party leader, Mabuza for deputy
The young lions say the next ANC leadership must be full of young people, and they want two deputy secretary-generals.

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has formally endorsed former African Union Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as its candidate to succeed President Jacob Zuma as the leader of the governing party in December.
The league briefed the media at ANC headquarters Luthuli House in Johannesburg following the recently concluded national executive committee (NEC) meeting at the weekend.
ANCYL secretary-general Njabulo Nzuza announced the league’s candidates for the ANC’s top six positions as follows:
- President: Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma
- Deputy president: Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza
- Secretary-general: Free State Premier Ace Magashule
- National chairperson: Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa
- DSG [deputy secretary-general] for monitoring and evaluation: deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte
- DSG for organising and campaigns: Police Minister Fikile Mbalula
- Treasurer-general: International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane
The league’s president, Collen Maine, said there was nothing special about Dlamini-Zuma’s presidential contender, Cyril Ramaphosa, and though they respected him, they wanted Dlamini-Zuma.
The ANC elects new leaders later this year in December at its 54th national elective conference.
