The seriousness of the protests in Alexandra township and the gravity of the issues which led residents to shut down the township cannot be taken lightly, but humour made a brief showing on the frontlines of the protest action on Wednesday.
A reporter caught video footage of one the protesters mimicking the miracles of Alleluia International Ministries church leader pastor Alph Lukau, who recently claimed to have “resurrected” a dead man during a Sunday service.
Lukau’s claims sparked a social media craze which gave rise to the hashtag #ResurrectionChallenge as users posted hilarious video clips of their own “resurrections”.

Meanwhile, it was reported earlier that the protesters in Alexandra township refused to be addressed by Johannesburg MMC for public safety Michael Sun, who was forced to leave the area.
SowetanLive reports that Sun had been sent by the city’s mayor Herman Mashaba to assess the situation.
Mashaba has since responded to the protesters at Alexandra, saying in a statement that he“deeply [sympathised] with the challenges experienced by” them.
