Walls closing in on Mduduzi Manana
The DA says Manana clearly tried to intimidate Wiro.

ANC MP Mduduzi Manana seems to have a target on his back as the DA gears up to lay extortion and corruption charges against him.
This is seconded by Parliament’s decision to consider Manana’s complaint, following Ramaphosa statement during the National Assembly yesterday stating that Manana first had to undergo the ANC’s systems of accountability before action would be taken.
The DA in a statement said they planned to lay extortion and corruption charges against Manana following the release of a voice clip where he could be heard trying to extort his former domestic worker, Christine Wiro, after she laid charges against him.
“In the clip, Mr Manana clearly attempts to offer Ms Wiro money in order to benefit himself and avoid further prosecution. He clearly unlawfully and intentionally tried to take advantage of her by subjecting her to financial pressure. He obviously wanted to use his privileged position, and tried to buy himself out of accountability.”
The police are still investigating the charges even though they were withdrawn.
“We maintain that Manana belongs in prison and not in Parliament. He has broken his oath of office and taxpayers should not be made to pay the salary of a woman abuser,” said the party.
This is seconded by another complaint to the ethics committee, demanding Manana’s removal by the DA.
Parliament is considering the complaint.
Manana was convicted on three counts of assault last year, and the DA says his behavior is unbecoming.
The African National Congress Youth League on Wednesday also called on Manana to resign in the wake of assault allegations against him by his domestic worker.
