Emergency services responded to the fire at around 11.45am. Pieterse said the fire had been put out.

The building is a community centre that recently underwent construction.

The cause of the fire was unknown and subject to investigation. What has been confirmed is that the community hall, which is privately owned, was on fire due to an explosion.

A further six construction workers also reportedly experienced burn-related injuries.
