‘Very drunk’ driver, not a pedestrian apparently, caused deadly R21 truck crash

A “very drunk” driver and not a pedestrian was allegedly the cause of the accident on the R21 on Saturday morning in which two people were killed, reports the Kempton Express.

Senior Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson, on Monday morning said: “I can confirm that the Mazda Etude driver was very drunk and was arrested. Charges of culpable homicide have been added. No mention of a pedestrian was ever made.”

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the Etude pulled in front of one of the trucks, causing it to lose control and crash through the barriers into oncoming traffic.

ER24 over the weekend reported the accident, involving two trucks and three cars, could have been caused by a pedestrian running across the highway.

Two people have been killed and seven others injured in the multiple-vehicle collision.
