One child has died and two others were severely injured after they were hit by a car in Saint Amant Street in Malvern, east of Johannesburg, reports the Joburg East Express.
According to Netcare 911, reports from the scene allege the driver lost control of his vehicle which veered off of the road and crashed into the three children.
Netcare 911 paramedics attended to one of the injured children, a nine-year-old.
A six-year-old girl was attended to by another ambulance service. She was in a stable condition and had sustained moderate injuries, said the paramedic service.
“Both of the children were stabilised at the scene before being transported to hospital for further urgent care,” said Netcare911.
“Tragically, a third girl, believed to be about six years old, succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene.”
Netcare911 said the driver of the vehicle was detained by police at the scene and the local fire department also attended the scene.
Yesterday, on the Ward 118 Facebook page called ‘Cllr Neuren’s Diary and Notice Board’, the councillor Neuren Pietersen reminded readers school holidays are continuing for the next three weeks and warned motorists that in neighbourhoods like Malvern there are many children and pedestrians in the street.
