UPDATE: Young girl shot and killed in KZN botched hijacking
Communications officer of the eThekwini Inner South cluster, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, has confirmed that the 9-year-old child succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
A nine-year-old girl was shot and killed after the vehicle she was travelling in was hijacked in Himalaya Drive, in Shallcross, KwaZulu-Natal a short while ago, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.
This tragic incident occurred as the country prepares to commemorate Child Protection Week.

Details of the incident are still sketchy, however, communications officer of the eThekwini Inner South cluster, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, has confirmed that the child succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.

“Two suspect were arrested, one of whom is deceased. One suspect is at large. Police investigations are continuing,” added Cpt Pillay.

Chairman of the Chatsworth community policing forum (CPF), Jakes Singh has spoken out about the horrific incident.
Jakes Singh also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
