The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is expected to make an announcement on the prosecution of former President Jacob Zuma soon.
This comes after the Constitutional Court this afternoon dismissed an application by the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (CASAC) to stop NPA head Shaun Abraham’s from announcing his decision on Zuma’s prosecution.
Expectations were that Abrahams would make his decision known tomorrow on whether charges of corruption, fraud and racketeering against Zuma in the “Spy Tapes” saga should be reinstated.
However, according to NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku, Abrahams will not be making his announcement tomorrow.
Mfaku says any announcement about Zuma going on trial would be made after tomorrow, and the NPA and Abrahams would inform all parties concerned about his decision before a public announcement is made.
Meanwhile, the NPA is set to brief parliament tonight on the cases it is handling.
The prosecuting authority is scheduled to appear before the standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) at 6 pm.
