A 20-year-old University of the Free State (UFS) law student was fatally stabbed on Sunday, allegedly while on his way back from a tavern in the Willows area in Bloemfontein, reports OFM News.
Police spokesperson Thabo Covane told OFM News that the victim and his friends were walking home from a tavern in Willows when they were confronted by a group of men who demanded their cell phones and money.

It is reported that the victim handed his possessions to the robbers, after which there was a tussle between the victim and the suspects. The suspects then stabbed the victim twice. The student succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.
The Willows is known for being a high-crime area, most notably Ella Street, where the fatal incident took place.
Police confirmed a lead is being pursued, but that no arrests have been made yet.
Covane said they are unable to release the name of the victim, as his family has not yet granted the police permission to do so. The victim was originally from Port Elizabeth and was a second-year law student at UFS Bloemfontein campus.
