Two men have been arrested for rape and sexual assault in two separate incidents in Johannesburg Central, Gauteng police said on Sunday.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at his workplace on the corner of Anderson and Mooi street on Friday in connection with a rape the day before, Captain Xoli Mbele said.
It was alleged that the man, a supervisor, raped a 20-year-old woman on Thursday afternoon. The victim was at her workplace and had asked her supervisor to lend her money for taxi fare. The supervisor allegedly asked her to come to his office where he “forced himself on her”. She “managed to push him” and reported the incident to the managers of the company.
The man would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Mbele said.
In the other incident, a 25-year-old man was arrested for sexual assault and malicious damage to property at a flat on the corner of Heidelberg and Rosettenville streets at about 10pm on Saturday night, Mbele said.
It was alleged the man had sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl about half-an-hour before. The teenager had apparently gone to fetch water from a tap when she was confronted by the man. “He touched her breast and followed her. [The] victim rushed to her room but he broke the door. Police were contacted and [the] suspect [was] apprehended.”
The man would also appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Mbele said.
