The trial of the man charged with the rape and murder of three-year-old Courtney Pieters in Elsies River, Cape Town, a year ago will begin in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.
Pieters was last seen alive on May 4, 2017, when she was playing in front of her family home in Elsies River.
The girl was reported missing, and was found days later buried in a shallow grave in nearby Epping Industria.
Her alleged killer, Mortimer Saunders, had been living in a room in a house rented out by Courtney’s parents.
