Train hits vehicle in Pretoria North

Mechanical jaws were used to free the seriously injured man trapped inside the vehicle.


A man was seriously injured when his bakkie landed before a train in Pretoria North on Thursday around 12:30, Pretoria North Record reports.

Best Care ambulance services spokesperson Xander Loubser said from the scene the driver of the bakkie was trapped inside the vehicle in Jan van Riebeeck Street.

“The jaws of life will were used to free the seriously injured man.”

Loubser said: “I’m not sure whether the driver of the bakkie disobeyed the stop sign at the railway crossing or not.”

The man would be taken to the nearest hospital.

No one else was injured.
