Thirty-three people injured in two separate Durban minibus taxi crashes

A total of 33 people were injured in two separate minibus taxi crashes in Durban on Saturday afternoon, paramedics said.

Eighteen people sustained various injuries when a minibus taxi and a car collided on the N3 westbound near the Berea off-ramp at about 2.30pm, Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said.

“Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find multiple patients injured. Immediately more ambulances as well as advanced life support units were dispatched to assist. The injuries ranged from minor to moderate. Once all the injured had been stabilised on the scene they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

“At this stage the events leading up to the collision [are] unknown. However, [police] were on the scene and will be investigating further,” he said.

In another crash a short while earlier, 15 people were injured when a minibus taxi crashed into the back of a truck on the N3 Durban-bound near Paradise Valley in Pinetown,

“Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene just after 1pm to find a taxi had rear ended a truck. A total of 15 people had sustained minor injuries and immediately more ambulances were dispatched to assist on the scene. Once the injured had been stabilised they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.”

The cause of this collision was also unknown at this stage, Jamieson said.
