Still no word on Vuwani crisis

The Pro-Makhado Demarcation Task Team in the troubled area of Vuwani in Limpopo could on Friday morning not say what it discussed during a meeting held on Thursday afternoon.

Children in the area have not been allowed to go to school by those taking part in the protest action over demarcation issues. Taxi services, buses and shops have also been barred from operating.

Disgruntled protesters have been demanding that the Municipal Demarcation Board  (MDB) reverse its decision to merge Vuwani with Malamulele and other surrounding villages to form a new municipality.

Speaking to The Citizen on Friday morning, spokesperson for the task team Nsovo Sambo said he was not at liberty to divulge the details of the meeting, except that the shutdown would continue indefinitely.

On Thursday, the ministers of police and corporate governance and traditional affairs, Fikile Mbalula and Des van Rooyen, visited the area and the Vyeboom village was highlighted as the most troublesome.

Earlier this week, two people lost their lives when the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a pipe used to barricade one of the roads. Meanwhile, several shops in the area have been operating under heavy police presence.
