Bongekile ‘Babes Wodumo’ Simelane has been trending after she posted a video on social media pleading with her followers to help remove a song of hers from the internet that could have been leaked before its official release.
In the video, Babes Wodumo says she lost a USB containing a song of hers, Gandaganda, that she was still working on, asking people to help recover it by sending her links to the song so she could try to remove it.
In isiZulu, she says: “We have heard people say they’ve heard it being played in South Beach and other places. So guys, if you have a link to the song, please send it to me, whether you DM it or on Facebook, Bongekile Simelane. Please send it to me so we can try to delete it, please. It is painful because it has not been mastered yet. So I’m begging you, please help me.”
Social media users wonder, though, how it will be possible for Babes to delete a song saved in a USB using a link.
Choreographer and Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo chimed in and said he would help find the USB in Los Angeles, where he is now.
Some have argued she probably meant to ask for a link to an MP3 downloading site so she could ask to have it deleted.
But there is speculation that this could just be a smart marketing strategy.
“Bongekile you are a marketing genius sis wam! The whole country is talking about Gandaganda before it even drops! Trending for 2 days non stop, you even shut Twitter down. A wise man once said ‘Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring’…Mina I know your song is safe and sound in the studio computers to think otherwise ngizobe ngiyahlanya,” said one of her followers.
