Social media sets Maimane’s candle alight

When it comes to safety, the people thought the DA leader failed miserably.

The first night of load shedding saw DA leader Mmusi Maimane take yet another swipe at the ANC government, this time for the failures at Eskom, but it was not long before he felt the heat as the subject of an impromptu roast.

Maimane tweeted a picture of a candle in a jar, presumably providing light for him and his family during the blackout, but Twitter users felt no sympathy for the leader and began to tease him about a number of things.

One user teased him about not knowing the tried and tested method of getting a candle to stand upright using its own wax as a base, while another asked how he expected us to believe he would fix Eskom when he couldn’t even fix a candle.

Some thought the candle was a publicity stunt and that his family had a generator at the ready.

Some took the opportunity to question DA policy and governance plans with regards to Eskom and the country’s electricity crisis.

A majority of Twitter users opted to tease Maimane about how he handled the candle.

The country is currently in stage 3 rotational load shedding which will be in effect from 8am to 11pm.
