Twitter drags Ntsiki Mazwai for her Leanne Manas comments

While some praise the anchor's talent, the poet says there is no talent to watch.

Leanne Manas is today celebrating 15 years as an SABC news anchor and social media has joined in her celebration. Morning Live took to social media to wish her well on her milestone, and landed her on the Twitter trends list.

In response, Manas said: “I’m not sure where the time has gone but what an absolute privilege it has been to be with you through my life’s major milestones and allowing me to be a part of yours, South Africa.”

While some have been sending Manas congratulatory messages on social media, poet Ntsiki Mazwai, however, is one of those who does not think Manas is good at her job.

She said: “No I don’t think Leanne Manna is amazing at her job – I think she is just white. And enjoying privilege. She can’t even speak indigenous languages. She is not African,” to which Manas responded: “Good morning Ntiski [sic], it’s ‘Manas’ and everyone is entitled to an opinion and a place in this country. I respect your views.”

But Mazwai said she wasn’t asking Manas for permission to voice her opinion, further accusing her of being “completely ignorant” on black culture.

She said: “It’s Nontsikelelo…..and I wasn’t asking for your permission. White people always think we need their permission to express our views……take your f*cking patronising sh*t back to your homes.

“Leanne is completely ignorant on black culture – this is straight white privilege in action. The face of the daily news show on the national broadcaster is white? In a black country?”

“It’s boring I miss Sindi Mabe….this has always been white privilege.”

The two women have been trending on Twitter since. While some agreed with Mazwai, some, however, dragged her for constantly criticising Manas.
