WATCH: Steve Hofmeyr offers R10K to DStv dish destroyers

The musician says if you can't destroy it in his support, then do it to 'save money'.

Afrikaans musician Steve Hofmeyr has delivered on his promise to unsubscribe from DStv and he posted a video doing so, also encouraging others to follow suit. This following MultiChoice’s decision to ban his content on its platforms.

He says in Afrikaans: “Yes, you can’t boycott everything and everyone, but I’m going to try. I’m done with MultiChoice, all their channels, including kykNET and Showmax, as well as Media24 and a few others that I will name later. Get WiFi, Android TV, or many other pay-to-watch platforms. We will see the downfall of MultiChoice in our lifetime. I arranged a special funeral for my dish. After that, I consider the dozens [of] cheaper options. The best I can do is to ask you to do the same. Not for me. But to save money.”

Not only did Hofmeyr ask his fans to do the same, but he also gave anyone who does the same a chance to win R10,000 prize.

“A R10,000 cash prize for your video where you do the same. We’ll choose one lucky winner on 1 June 2019. We’ll inbox the winner, inform him or give his business any publicity that they would want. You must provide proof of your suspended DStv service.”

Watch his video below:

However, there should already be a winner after a video showed a man doing the same in support of Hofmeyr.

In a video recently shared by Videos South Africa on Facebook, a man can be heard instructing another to take down his satellite dish in protest before destroying it with a hammer.

He says in Afrikaans: “Is it loose? Pull it down, it’s rubbish. It’s either you (DStv) or Afrikaans and I choose Afrikaans. I will never choose DStv over Afrikaans. I’m finished with MultiChoice. Finished! Hit it! Hit it and fold it neatly, we’ll put it on the road for the people who collect scrap metal. They have decided they don’t like our Steve and Afrikaans, and I don’t like giving them my money anymore. If they want to destroy our language and land then we won’t give them any more money. We won’t pay them anymore.”
